What is ICAR Exam?: ICAR conducts every year an entrance test seperately for UG and PG admissions in agriculture and allied courses. The next entrance test is 23rd All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA-UG-2018) which will be held in the month of May 2018. The qualified candidates in this entrance are give admissions for Bachelore degreee programms. 15% of the total seats in 51 Agriculture Universities all over India including NDRI, Karnal (Haryana) are filled through this entrance exam. There are total 1021 BSc Agriculture seats at 37 Agriculture Universities, 211 BSc Horticulture seats at 14 Universities, 55 BSc Forestry Seats at 7 Universities, 83 BSc Fishiries seats at 11 Universities, 104 BSc Community Science (Previously known as Home Science) seats at 10 Universities, 7 BSc Sericulture seats at 2 universities, 177 BTech Agriculture Engineering seats at 18 Universities, 72 BTech Dairy Technology seats at 6 Universities, 29 seats for BTech Food Technology at 4 Universities and 40 seats in BSc Biotechnology at 2 Universities are  to be filled through this entrance test. Reservation of seats for OBC would be as per Government of India directives and as per seat positions communicated by the Universities before counseling. Seats reserved for OBC will be applicable to Central Government Institutions for Higher Education namely, NDRI Karnal, BHU Varanasi, CAU Imphal, Nagaland University, RLBCAU Jhansi, SASARD Medziphema and ViswaBharati (PSB, VB) Shantiniketan Universities.

Courses: Admission to 10 Bachelor degree programmes of four years duration in the subjects of: (i) Agriculture (ii) Horticulture (iii) Fisheries (iv) Forestry (v) Community Science (erstwhile Home Science) (vi)Sericulture (vii) Biotechnology (viii) Agricultural Engineering (ix) Dairy Technology (x) Food Technology is available to Indian Nationals based on merit-rank in ICAR’s All India Entrance Examination. For the purpose of Entrance Examination, these 10 under graduate (UG) degree programmes are categorized into two Streams viz. Stream-A: Agriculture/Biology and Stream-B: Mathematics. The candidate has a right to exercise option only for one Stream at the time of submitting the application. The option once exercised cannot be changed subsequently.

Stream-A (Agriculture/Biology): Candidates under this stream can seek admission for Bachelor degree programmes in Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Forestry, Home Science, Sericulture and Biotechnology. Candidates opting for Stream-A in the entrance examination should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agriculture/Home Science subjects (PCB/PCMB/PCA/ Inter (Agri.)). Intermediate with Agriculture and having not studied Physics and Chemistry as separate subjects may be eligible for admission in some SAUs in the State of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Intermediate with Home Science would be eligible for admission in limited AUs in Community Science (erstwhile Home Science) Degree only.

Stream-B (Mathematics): Candidates under this stream can seek admission for Bachelor degree programmes in Agricultural Engineering, Dairy Technology and also in Forestry, Food Technology and Biotechnology at some of the Agricultural Universities provided Biology has been one of the subjects during 10+2 examination. Candidates opting for Stream-B in the entrance examination should have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects (PCM/PCMB).

A candidate from Stream–A can also exercise option for admission to Food Science, Agricultural Marketing &Co-operation whereas candidate from Stream-B can also opt for admission in Forestry or Biotechnology in few universities.

Eligibility: The basic eligibility a pass in 10+2 Senior Secondary Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education or any other examination within scope and standard found to be equivalent to the Senior Secondary Examination of a recognised Indian Board after a period of 12 years of study. The last two years of such 10+2 examination should have papers in Physics, Chemistry and any one of the subjects from Biology/ Mathematics/ Agriculture* /Home Science**. Besides, for admission in the Universities specifically located in non-Hindi speaking areas, candidate must have passed English as a core subject in 10+2 examination. Candidate must have passed any one of the qualifying examinations mentioned above securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate for General, OBC and UPS categories and 40% marks in aggregate for SC, ST and PC categories. Candidate having a compartment/ supplementary in any of the subjects will not be eligible unless proof of having cleared the examination with requisite percentage is available. Candidate appearing in the qualifying examination can also apply but would be required to submit evidence of having satisfied the conditions mentioned above, latest by the counseling date, as otherwise the candidature will be automatically canceled.

ICAR National Talent Scholarship (NTS): National Talent Scholarship would be available through the Agricultural University concerned, to every student admitted on ICAR seat at any Agricultural University, at the rate of Rs. 2,000/- per month during the period of study provided the student: (i) Joins an Agricultural University in a State outside his/her Domicile State. (ii) Has not changed the University/subject allotted for any reason. (iii) Has not been admitted against any vacant seat through wait-list option as per his/her request (iv) Maintains good conduct and satisfactory academic performance (7.00 OGPA) throughout the period of study. (v) Does not fail in any course/unit during the period of study.

Mode of Application: Application has to made through online mode only with an application fee of Rs.500/- for General, OBC & UPS Categories and Rs.250/- for SC, ST and PC Categories.

  3. Last date of online application: 04.04.2017 (up to 11.59 P.M.)
  4. Last date for receipt of hard copy of computer generated confirmation page of online application: 15.04.2018
  5. e-Admit card information (on ICAR website): Last week of April, 2018
  6. Declaration of result: 30th May, 2018
